Officials
at the Coca-ColaŽ Co. are so
excited about their latest discovery, they are
practically glowing. Thomas Laird, leisure
marketing account executive, has found what he
believes to be the best see-through decals ever
used by the bottler. |
Initially, in its work with
fairs and carnivals, Atlanta-based Coca-ColaŽ needed a decal for
concession stands that "wouldn't block the
view of either the customer or the
concessionaire," explains Laird.
The company asked Canada-based Suncan
Industries Ltd., if it would
develop a clear decal with the "Always Coca-ColaŽ" logo on it.
The results more than met expectations. "The
decals are the best I've seen",
Laird says. They allow through vision at a
distance as well as up close while still
remaining visible themselves. "At
night they almost look like an illuminated
sign", he adds.
The non-adhesive Suncan Decals are applied with
water and a squeegee to create a strong seal.
They can easily be removed, and can be
repositioned during placement.
Last summer Laird began inventing other uses for
the decals: on tents, umbrellas and tram roofs.
"I had the decals put on a clear plastic
panel and then sewn into the tops of some Coke
tents," he says.
Another use he's found is on the exteriors of
trailers and trucks. Coca-ColaŽ uses a decal with
a mild adhesive for this purpose.
"I've put them all over the place,"
Laird says, estimating that there are more than
20,000 Coke decals around the country on
concession stands alone. |
| While
the initial 18 inch by 24 inch Coke
decals served most of Laird's needs, he
has since begun using both 8 inch by 8
inch decals and 24 inch by 36 inch
decals. |

"The colors and quality are
great", he says. But it is
the "excellent
visibility" that keeps on
selling him. |
